Making complex things make sense.
I help organisations make sense of complexity – from sustainability and impact to human behaviour.
20+ years working with global organisations.
My career has taken me from a senior leadership role at the Environment Agency to working independently as a sustainability communications specialist and copywriter for some of the world's leading organisations.
I've helped business leaders and technical experts to find the story that matters and communicate it clearly – contributing to award-winning reporting and building client relationships that have lasted many years.
Below are just some of the companies I’ve worked with.
My work today
Today, my work spans several areas that might look different at first, but they are all connected by the same thing: helping people understand what matters and make sense of it.
Sustainability communications & copywriting
Helping organisations turn complex issues and performance into clear and credible communications.
From corporate reports and thought leadership to digital content, I work with communications teams and subject-matter experts to uncover what matters most and find the clearest way to tell the story.
I also offer a Green Claims Check to help organisations review their environmental communications for clarity, credibility and potential greenwashing risk.
Human behaviour & the nervous system
Making the science of being human understandable and useful in everyday life through my own start-up, Lovely Messy Humans.
I help people and organisations understand the biology behind communication, behaviour, relationships, change and performance – including through my Meet the Boss talks and workshops.
I also work with schools and colleges – helping educators, parents and students understand stress, anxiety and behaviours like self-harm through the lens of the nervous system.
A selection of my work
-
With creative agency RY, I worked with HEINEKEN for 10 years, initially supporting sustainability content for its Annual Report and corporate website, and later working across the entire Integrated Annual Report and Sustainability Statements.
I interviewed experts from across the global business to uncover and develop stories, created narrative and case-study content, and worked directly within Workiva as a virtually embedded member of the reporting team.
The report won Gold for Best Annual Report – International at the 2025 Corporate & Financial Awards, as well as Best Annual Report at the IR Impact Awards 2025.
-
For more than eight years, I worked in partnership with RY as the lead copywriter on Mondi's sustainability reporting.
I worked closely with technical specialists across the business, interviewing them and translating detailed information into clear, accessible content. My role spanned the entire report – from the overarching narrative and performance content to case studies and the CEO statement, including direct interviews with the CEO.
The result was a highly technical report recognised for the quality and transparency of its communications. In 2022, Mondi and RY won Gold at the Corporate & Financial Awards for both Best Integrated Report and Best Online Sustainability/ESG Report.
-
For eight years, I worked with RY to support Allianz with its sustainability reporting and digital content, working closely with the reporting team and content providers across the business.
My role involved developing robust technical content, interviewing subject-matter experts, creating case studies and translating detailed sustainability information into clear, accessible communications.
I also worked with Allianz Global Investors on its Sustainability and Stewardship Reportto help sharpen key messages for priority audiences. The resulting report reduced content by 30% while creating a much clearer focus on the information that mattered most to its audiences.
-
I've worked annually with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on Reporting Matters since 2019.
Developed in partnership with RY, Reporting Matters provides an annual benchmark for effective, impactful sustainability reporting, highlighting trends, good practice and emerging challenges.
As well as editing the core publication, I take part in interviews with WBCSD member companies from around the world and turn these conversations into Q&As that bring reporting trends and best practice to life – sharing practical insights that other organisations can learn from.
-
Working in partnership with RY, I worked with Microsoft Devices in 2019, helping to develop its first Responsible Supply Chain Report, followed by its annual Sustainability Report.
I later worked on Microsoft's Digital Defense Report in 2022 and 2023. Drawing on Microsoft's extraordinary depth of cybersecurity data and expertise, these reports provide governments, organisations and other stakeholders around the world with an accessible view of the evolving threat landscape.
As copywriter, my role was to work with specialist content and subject-matter experts to distil highly technical information into clear, engaging content – helping make the key insights and actionable steps useful to a much broader audience.
-
Working in partnership with RY, I've supported US-based Kontoor Brands – with its portfolio of brands: Wrangler®, Lee®, and Helly Hansen® – as a copywriter on its sustainability and impact reporting for several years.
The work involves translating detailed sustainability information from across a complex global apparel supply chain into clear, robust reporting, covering issues from materials and emissions to chemicals and water, alongside disclosures aligned with the SASB framework.
-
Working in partnership with Leap, I've supported Tilda since 2021, when the business first decided to communicate more openly and systematically about its sustainability and impact efforts.
What began with impact reporting has grown into a much broader programme of action and communication. I've worked alongside the team to shape, capture and communicate Tilda's evolving approach.
At the heart of that story has been Tilda's work with thousands of basmati farmers in Northern India to reduce the environmental impact of growing rice while supporting farmer livelihoods.
In 2026, this work won Supply Chain Sustainability Project of the Year at the edie Awards and Supply Chain Project of the Year at the UK Green Business Awards.
Most recently, working with Leap, I helped create Tilda's new sustainability microsite, bringing its impact communications together in one place and communicating progress across Responsible Growing, Better Business and Thriving Communities.
-
Working in partnership with Leap, I've supported B Corp-certified Bruichladdich on around four annual impact reports.
This is a deliberately light-touch role, with the Bruichladdich team developing much of the content themselves. I provide consultancy, editing and copywriting support – helping structure and refine the content and ensure complex sustainability information is clear, accessible and engaging.
The result is also some of the most beautiful sustainability reporting I've had the pleasure of working on – combining robust impact information with Bruichladdich's distinctive brand and Leap's creative design.
-
Working independently with Seasalt Cornwall, I've helped the clothing brand produce three impact reports, communicating its work to reduce its environmental impact, source more responsibly and contribute to positive change across the fashion industry.
During our work together, Seasalt achieved B Corp certification, and I've supported the team with wider sustainability communications, including a focus on clear and credible green claims.
I've also developed more in-depth sustainability stories for the Seasalt Life platform, bringing the people, partnerships and initiatives behind its commitments to life for customers.
